  • Federal Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia has imposed a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX) effective from September 2017. Foreign tourists are required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of the hotel star level. About Drinking Water / Hot Water
UV filtered drinking water available at Laban Rata restaurant area. Mineral water available for purchase at the grocery counter – MYR 7 for 500ml / MYR 14 for 1.5 liters. Coffee & Tea will only be provided during Breakfast Hour and Supper. The cost for one mug of hot water at the restaurant is RM1.5, but there is water dispenser inside Pendant Hut where you can get FOC hot water or filled up your bottle. (Price subject to change without prior notice).

No Heated Shower/Room Heater
The power supply at Pendant Hut comes from solar power, hence, the available generated electricity is very limited. As a result, hot shower and room heater is not available (not only for Pendant Hut, but applied to all mountain huts).

  1. Not recommended to bring valuable items with you.
  2. The safekeeping of your personal belongings is at your own responsibility.
  3. Original passport or identity card is required for verification during the registration process.
  4. Extra luggage/belonging that you don’t wish to bring with you for mountain climbing can be kept at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges reception office (RM12/luggage).
  5. You may hire a porter to carry your backpack at Park HQ. Payments will be made directly to the porter by cash.
  6. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months to run from your time of entry into Malaysia.
  7. After commencement of tour service there will be no refund in part or full will be made for unused service/activity.
  8. We will not be held liable for any delay, additional expenses of inconvenience which may be caused by directly or indirectly by events outside of the company control, such as late arrival of domestic or international flights, civil disturbances, fire, floods, unusually severe weather, act of God, act of Government, or the failure of any machinery or equipment.
  9. In the unlikely event such as bad weather conditions, the local authority (Sabah Park) withholds the rights to cancel the summit climb, no refund in part or full will be given.
  10. We are bound by Mountain Torq terms and conditions whereby no refund will be given if Via Ferrata activities are cancelled due to bad weather conditions and/or climbers unable to comply with any cut-off time sets by the activity operator.
  11. We cannot be held responsible, or in any liable, for any injury, property losses, accident, or damage incurred for any reason whatsoever, whether through activity booked through us or caused to you by third parties, during your stay or during participation in any activity.
  12. Strongly recommend that all guests take up adequate personal travel insurance before the trip commences.
  13. Guests must advise any disability requiring special attention or dietary request at the time the reservation is made. ABOUT WALK THE TORQ

This leisurely 2-3 hour Walk The Torq route is a shorter commitment than that of the Low’s Peak Circuit. Peppered with frequent opportunities to take pictures and enjoy the scenery, Walk The Torq is adrenaline pumping enough to offer a little taste of the Via Ferrata experience without having to expend too much energy.

SHOES POLICY

As we all know, safety is paramount in any outdoor sport and this is no exception. In order to have the best experience without compromising on safety standards, below is the recommended shoes to wear for Via Ferrata activity.

Via Ferrata participants are recommended to wear shoes that are like or similar to the following shoes:
Hiking Boots
Walking Shoes (good grip)
Trekking Shoes
Sneakers / Running shoes with laces

No climbers are not allowed to participate in the Via Ferrata activity with the following shoes as indicated below:
No Open Toe Shoes
No Slippers
No Slip In Sneakers

VIA FERRATA T&C

  • All Via Ferrata climber has to be fit and healthy, able to meet the Sabah Parks’ minimum health regulation. Sabah Parks indicates that people with the history of heart disease, hypertension, chronic asthma, peptic ulcer, severe anaemia, diabetes, epileptic fits, arthritis, palpitations, hepatitis, muscular cramps, obesity and any other sickness that may be triggered by severe cold, exertion and high altitude is not encouraged to climb the mountain.
  • Climber(s) must be:
    – Minimum 10 years old for Walk The Torq
    – Minimum 16 years old for Low’s Peak Circuit
    – At least 1.3m in height
    – Meet Sabah Parks’ health requirement
    – Do not have any physical disabilities that may restrict the climber(s)’ ability to participate in the activity in a safe manner.
  • Climber(s) must personally present their original identification document during verification at Kinabalu Park Office.
  • Climber(s) must attend the compulsory Via Ferrata safety briefing and training session at Pendant Hut, between 3.00 to 4.00 p.m. There will be NO repeat briefing and NO Via Ferrata on the next day should you miss the mandatory briefing.
  • Climbers(s) must arrive at the Via Ferrata starting point before 6.30a.m. (LPC) and 7.15a.m. (WTT) – who miss the cut-off time will not be allowed on the Via Ferrata. Any request for reimbursement will not be entertained.
  •  No full/partial refunds or credit will be given for unused services. In the event of inclement weather where the activity is terminated/cancelled, there shall be no refund accorded. Activity cancellation is STRICTLY due to SAFETY REASON.

** All terms and conditions above are set by Via Ferrata’s operator and we are all bound by the same T&C with no exception. And it is climber’s responsibility to comply the timing sets by the activity operator.

Ascent Timpohon Trail

6:00 am
Pick up from your hotel at Kota Kinabalu and transfer to Kinabalu Park (It takes approximately 2 hours from Kota Kinabalu to the Park HQ) and start your 2D1N Via Ferrata Walk The Torq package – Sharing Transport basis.

8:00 am
Arrive at Kinabalu Park HQ, meet your PRIVATE Mountain Guide, and collect your packed lunch. Transfer to Timpohon Starting Point & start hiking

3:00 pm
Arrive at Pendant Hut @ 3,289m and settle in

3:30 pm
Attend the mandatory Via Ferrata safety briefing in Pendant Hut and meet your Mountain Torq Trainer (Compulsory – There will be NO repeat briefing and NO Via Ferrata on the next day should you miss the mandatory briefing)

Arrive at Timpohon Gate. Take the KOKTAS transfer to Kinabalu Park HQ. Collect your certificate and have your late lunch before back to the city. End of your 2D1N Via Ferrata Walk The Torq tour.

How much is the cost?

Porter service is fully optional depends on individual. Due to number of porters are reducing, your mountain guide might also act as your porter (depends on the availability of porter during the actual day).

  • Porters will measure the weight of backpacks in front of climbers.

  • Things can get wet on the mountain, so pack your belongings in big plastic bag/use a backpack rain cover to protect your climbing gear.

ACCOMMODATION

Pendant Hut Mount Kinabalu Accommodation

Pendant Hut

(Private Room and Unisex Shared Dormitory)

Pendant Hut (3289 meters above sea level) located at approximately 6km from Timphon Gate, around 10 minutes short walk from Laban Rata Resthouse. This cozy and eco-friendly Alpine-inspired hut is exclusively for Via Ferrata’s climber. Mandatory pre-activity briefings will be held here every day. Pendant Hut houses guests in a dormitory-style setting or private room for 4 & for 6 (bunk bed room), both are non-heated rooms that share common bathroom. Unlike other mountain huts, Pendant Hut is the only hut equipped with pillows and sleeping bags, instead of blankets. Here you can enjoy your post-midnight supper and American breakfasts, relax at the comfortable lounge area, pick up a climbing book at our mini alpine library or have fun playing board games. The highest post box certified by Malaysia Book of Records is located at Pendant Hut too!
