ABOUT SEPILOK

Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre located about 25 kilometres west of Sandakan in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. Set up in year 1964. Sprawls over 4,294 hectares of virgin jungle reserves rich in tropical rainforest and mangrove swamp, this sanctuary serves to rehabilitate orangutans that have been abandoned by their mothers or were formerly in captivity. These orphaned orangutans, found from logging sites, plantations and illegal hunting, were rehabilitated until fit enough to be returned to the wild. Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre gives you an opportunity to watch the orangutan – “Man of The Forest”, up close in their natural habitat. Besides, you can witness the feeding process of the orangutan by the rangers at the feeding platform!

Sepilok Feeding Time: 10am & 3pm

ABOUT LABUK BAY

LABUK BAY PROBOSCIS MONKEY SANCTUARY

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary located at the centre of the mangrove forest along the coastal land near Samawang Village, Sandakan. This privately-owned sanctuary within an oil palm estate offers a perfect observation platform for you to have a closer look at Borneo’s indigenous proboscis monkeys. There are two viewing platforms at Labuk Bay – Platform A and Platform B.

Platform A is a huge open area wooden platform and a long wooden walkway meandered over a swampy mangrove area. Here, you can see Proboscis Monkeys in fairly close proximity, probably less than a meter distance. Platform B is smaller compared to Platform A but here is the venue where Silver Leaf Monkeys and Hornbills occasionally visit.

Proboscis monkey gets its name from its large, fleshy nose and only found in Borneo Island. They have reddish-brown fur on their back and shoulders, which ends at the midsection. Besides, they are excellent swimmers! But swim only when necessary and for pleasure. If you love to watch these unique primates not found elsewhere in the world. a trip to Labuk Bay will definitely leave you the most exhilarating and unforgettable experience. Above all, if you wish to visit other parts of Borneo, you may also consider other Sabah Tour packages such as the Kinabatangan River Cruise trip.

Labuk Bay Feeding Time:

Platform A – 9.30am & 2.30pm / Platform B – 11.30am & 4.30pm
