Located in the State of Sabah Borneo, Kinabalu Park is cradled in the arms of lush luminescent green. Surrounding the gentle yet magnificent beauty of Mount Kinabalu, the park covers approximately 75,370 ha of land and 4 vegetation zones from lowland rainforest to alpine scrub, with an altitudinal range of 1,520 metres to 4,095.2 metres above sea level. Kinabalu Park is Malaysia’s First World Heritage Site since December 2000 by UNESCO.
In this untouched wilderness, innumerable varieties of plants flourish together with a wide range of birds and animals. Over 5000 types of flowering plants including 1200 species of orchids, 26 species of rhododendrons, over 80 species of fig trees as well as 60 species of oak and chestnut trees are found here. Besides, about 100 species of mammals and 26 species of birds are also known to reside in the sprawling park.
Approximately 2 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu city, Kinabalu Park Headquarters sits at an elevation of 1,520 metres above sea level. Besides that, Kinabalu Park serves as the main entry point for the visitor and Mount Kinabalu climbers. Climbers from around the world start their ascend from Timpohon Gate at the Kinabalu National Park. Apart from that, there are also a few types of Kinabalu Park Accommodation available for climbers and visitors. There are two restaurants inside the park named Balsam Cafe and Liwagu Restaurant, both serve delicious local food!
