Located at 3,272 meters above sea level, Panalaban is the final pit stop before ascending to the Low’s Peak Summit of Mount Kinabalu. Panalaban Base Camp providing climbers with comfortable lodgings and hot meals. There are 4 lodges at Panalaban, namely Laban Rata Resthouse, Pendant Hut, Panalaban Hostel, and Lemaing Hut. There is one restaurant available here, located inside Laban Rata Resthouse.
Accommodations on the mountain at Panalaban Base Camp area are humbly decorated and only supply basic facilities to climbers. Hence, do not expect hotel conditions. Besides that, all mountain huts are quite similar. For instance, most of the rooms are non-heated unisex dormitory bunk beds and shared a common bathroom. Since the power supply in Panalaban comes from a generator set and shared among all the accommodations in Panalaban, the available generated electricity is very limited. As a result, hot shower is not available at all mountain hut.
Climbers have to stay overnight in one of the mountain huts at Panalaban Base Camp area before ascending to the summit early the next morning. If you don’t have a bed to stay in, you are not allowed to climb! The capacity on the mountain is very limited. Hence, booking in advance is a must because it can be full easily especially during peak seasons.
