A short drive away from the Kinabalu Park Headquarters, Poring Hot Spring is a tropical retreat located in the Ranau district. The name Poring comes from a KadazanDusun word which means “Bamboo” – bamboo plants that grow extensively in this area. Situated in lowland rainforest, contrasting with the montane and submontane rainforest of Kinabalu Park, Poring is well know for its natural hot spring bath. Local people believes soaking in the mineral-infused hot spring waters is good for health and could improves blood circulation. It is a good way relax tense muscles as well!

Besides the baths, Poring Hot Spring exhibits its natural charm in other attractions such as the Butterfly Farm, Rafflesia Garden, Orchid Conservation Centre, Bamboo Garden, Tree Top Canopy Walk, and Langanan Waterfall standing 120 metres high!

TAKE A DIP IN THE SULPHUR RICH HOT SPRINGS

The natural minerals such as Sulphur in the hot spring waters are believed to have healing properties. The natural hot spring water is channeled into open-air baths and private indoor bathtubs, with a temperature ranging from 49 to 60 degrees. Drop by for a relaxing soak is a “must do” activity in Poring.

Kipungit waterfall and langanan waterfall

There are two waterfalls inside Poring Hot Spring, which is the “Kipungit Waterfall” and “Langanan Waterfall”. A short distance from the hot spring area, Kipungit Waterfall is a 10 metres tall gush of hill water very much shaded under a canopy of trees. Langanan Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Poring. It is more than 120 metres in height and takes approximately 2 hours trekking through the lowland tropical forest.

The tree-top canopy walk in poring

Get a bird eye view of it all as you make your way through the suspension bridge 41 metres high up in the canopy of trees. The canopy walk is approximately 158 metres long, constructed with ropes, steel cables, aluminium ladders, walking planks to cover the open rungs of the ladders and netting at both sides for safety. Apart from the Sulphur bath, Poring Tree-top Canopy Walk is another main highlights at here.

ORCHID CONSERVATION CENTRE

See the world’s most expensive orchid – Rothschild’s Slipper Orchid, at the conservation area. With dark lines running along it’s petals, this botanical beauty has even been made as Sabah’s official orchid. This conservation area has the largest collection of Sabah orchids including some rare and endangered species.

Raffflesia Garden Poring

Come face to face with the world’s largest flower – Rafflesia Flower. Rafflesia take almost a year or sometimes even longer than a year to bloom, it’s almost like a blessing when you are able to witness it in bloom. Apart from that, the blooming period only last for about 7 days or even shorter time.

Poring Butterfly Farm

Step into the enclosed area of Borneo’s first butterfly farm that centres on research, education and preservation of endangered species. The farm is filled with flowers and several species of butterfly than can be seen up close. The butterfly farm is only take less than 5 minutes walk from the hot spring area.
