Day 1

Pick up from your hotel lobby or Sandakan Airport and proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.

Upon arrival, proceed to the Nature Education Centre for a short video screening. Onwards, make your way through the forest to the viewing platform. Witness the feeding session and observe the habitat of “wild man of the forest” in a close distance. Learn and meet the protected inhabitants of these sancturies while appreciating the conservation work done to save them.

After lunch, continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. You can now get close to the worlds smallest bear in its natural forest environment. There were information boards with facts about the bears hanging at the walkways at the centre. Besides, there is a binocular at the viewing platform for you to see the bear in close distance.

Visit to the Rainforest Discovery Centre, developed by Sabah Foresty Department to give an insight into the wonders of the rainforest. The 347m canopy walkway provides a spectacular view of the lush rainforest of Sepilok from 25m above the ground. Walk among tall rainforest trees and observe life high up in the canopy, look out for epiphytes, birds, squirrels and if you are lucky, you might saw wild Orang Utan! Pay a visit to Plant Discovery Garden before transfer back to respective hotel/airport.

Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre located about 25 kilometres west of Sandakan in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. Set up in year 1964. Sprawls over 4,294 hectares of virgin jungle reserves rich in tropical rainforest and mangrove swamp, this sanctuary serves to rehabilitate orangutans that have been abandoned by their mothers or were formerly in captivity. These orphaned orangutans, found from logging sites, plantations and illegal hunting, were rehabilitated until fit enough to be returned to the wild. Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre gives you an opportunity to watch the orangutan – “Man of The Forest”, up close in their natural habitat. Besides, you can witness the feeding process of the orangutan by the rangers at the feeding platform!

Sepilok Feeding Time: 10am & 3pm

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is the only sun bear conservation centre in the world.  It was founded in Sabah in year 2008, aim to promote sun bear conservation in Borneo through animal welfare, conservation, rehabilitation, education and research. Bornean Sun Bears are the smallest bears in the world and are only found in Southeast Asia. In the past, they have been captured from the wild and kept as pets in cages. Their habitat continues to be threatened by forest degradation, illegal hunting for bear parts and pet trade.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre plays an important role in rescuing captive bears and giving them proper care and facilities to live in. Besides, BSBCC also creates the capacity to confiscate, rehabilitate and release independent orphaned and ex-captive bears back into the wild.

Rainforest Discovery Centre is an environmental education facility run by Sabah Forestry Department, situated 23 kilometres away from Sandakan Town. RDC primarily to create public awareness and appreciation of the importance of conserving forests, as well as the sustainable use of forest resources.
Rainforest Discovery Centre has become one of the prime bird-watching spots in Sabah, with more than 250 species sighted. Beside Plant Discovery Garden, the main highlight of the centre is the rainforest canopy walkway that leads you to a bird observation tower. The walkway is an ideal vantage point for observing hornbills, pittas, kingfishers and the rare Bornean Bristlehead, one of the rarest bird in Sabah. Information panels with photos of many bird species are dotted along the trail. At the observation tower, you can discover Kabili Forest Reserve from the treetops above the ground!
