About Kinabatangan River

The Kinabatangan River, Sabah’s longest river, is one of the most exiting and accessible places to explore the rich biodiversity of Sabah, Borneo. The river offers an incredible opportunity to see large range if wildlife including Borneo’s unique Proboscis Monkey, the Orang Utan, Bornean Pygmy Elephant, crocodiles, otters and countless rare and beautiful birds. All the eight species of hornbill found in Borneo make the area their home.

The inhabitants of the Kinabatangan region are mostly Orang Sungai of mixed ancestry including Suluk, Bugis, Brunei, Bajaus and Chinese. A trip up the Kinabatangan River Cruise at dawn or dusk is the best opportunity to see the all the wildlife at here.

The resort is approximately 2.5 hours drive from Sandakan and has the most enviable location. Comprises 6 types of room and each of them is hewn and hand-crafted by local tradesman using the Borneo Iron Wood – a rare timber tree native to the Borneo and are exquisitely designed and decorated with local materials to blend harmoniously into the natural landscape of the rainforest.

Nestled along the bank of the Kinabatangan River, the resort is surrounded by quaint local village that provides a unique “close to nature” experience with plenty of opportunities for river cruise, jungle trekking, stroll through traditional villages and chance to see the proboscis monkeys, the orang utan, pygmy elephants, the oriental darter, hornbills, kingfishers and many living in their natural habitat.

It is a heaven for nature lovers and for those who need to retreat into nature, to recharge and to escape to a different reality. With the unique and classic ethnic room designed resembling the typical and traditional village house, the resort rests on the 4ft wooden stilts rising within the nature forest with the cottages scattered among the ancient trees and linked by series of boardwalk with each room comes with its own balcony. It is truly a great escape to enjoy the sounds of nature at its finest.
