ABOUT SEPILOK

Sepilokn Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre located about 25 kilometres west of Sandakan in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. Set up in year 1964. Sprawls over 4,294 hectares of virgin jungle reserves rich in tropical rainforest and mangrove swamp, this sanctuary serves to rehabilitate orangutans that have been abandoned by their mothers or were formerly in captivity. These orphaned orangutans, found from logging sites, plantations and illegal hunting, were rehabilitated until fit enough to be returned to the wild. Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre gives you an opportunity to watch the orangutan – “Man of The Forest”, up close in their natural habitat. Besides, you can witness the feeding process of the orangutan by the rangers at the feeding platform!

ABOUT SANDAKAN CITY TOUR

Today The Agnes Keith’s House has turned into a heritage house, providing interesting insights to life during British North Borneo. It is furnished with a reproduction of colonial furniture and antiques. A gallery on the first floor tells the story of this remarkable woman, her books and her family.

Sandakan Central Market is where you can learn about the lifestyle and culture of Sandakan local people. This three storey market sells fresh vegetables, local fruits, meat, fishes, dried foods, crafts and local food stores.

Sandakan Memorial Park – witnessed the death of approximately 2400 Australian and British prisoners of war held by the Japanese in the Sandakan POW camp and commemorates a tragedy that struck Sandakan during world war two (WWII). Within the attractively landscaped park, there is a commemorative pavilion and a small museum that serves as a memorial to the thousands of war prisoners.

Sim Sim Water Village – a traditional stilt village, located about 3km east of the town center, is the original settlement Sandakan grew from. You’ll likely be grinned at as you wander around the wooden boards built over the water. There are few famous seafood restaurant here and most of them are freshly catch from the sea.

Pu Ji Shih Temple is one of the famous temple in Sandakan. Tribute to its location at the hill side, many come here to have breathtaking panoramic view of Sandakan town and the harbour apart from religious duties.
